The advertisement is pretty slick with colored motorcycles (orange of course) and a black & white background. Nicely done, blasting music and no static motorcycles.

| 18 March, 2013 - Is KTM Becoming The Master Of Merchandising? | It used to be Harley-Davidson who were the masters of merchandising. They were even rumored to make more money selling their name on products than making money selling their motorcycles. But it looks like another motorcycle manufacturer has caught up, and probably even surpassed the Milwaukee based company; KTM.
Like most manufacturers, KTM started out with simple merchandising items, like baseball caps, t-shirts etc. All very bland, everyone had them. But quickly they started adding stuff that was unique, and because they were unique, they became fast bestsellers.
The KTM Toaster catapulted KTM into the merchandising scene. But they've had a lot of other stuff, so much that their catalog is quite big. It might not have reached Harley-Davidson proportions, but big nevertheless. It helps of course that they have loyal, even fanatical, fans that will make everything orange and put the KTM logo on it:..........

| 27 February, 2013 - KTM’s Moped - The Mecky | KTM are well known for their very capable and robust off-road motorcycles. You just need to look at the last 10 years worth of Dakar races to see that they've not only taken first place, but also many of the top 10 places. But they didn't always make off-road (and sports) motorcycles.
KTM was founded in 1934 by Hans Trunkenpolz in Mattighoven in Austria as a metalworking shop. The company was called Kraftfahrzeug Trunkenpolz Mattighofen, KTM. A few years later, in 1937, they started selling and repairing DKW motorcycles.
But it was only in 1953 that they came up with the idea to make their own motorcycles, and when in 1955 Austrian business man Ernst Kronreif bought into the company they were able to really make motorcycles. In the process, the company got renamed to Kronreif & Trunkenpolz Mattighofen, but still abbreviated to KTM.
Their first real own motorcycle was a moped, the Mecky in 1957...........

| 19 February, 2013 - India: KTM 390 To Launch? Biggest Displacement Made In India | India is getting more and more great motorcycles, with almost any self respecting motorcycle manufacturer getting into the game there. A few years ago, Bajaj bought most of KTM's company stock, so the Austrian company has strong ties with India. So as you'd expect, we'll be seeing more and more KTM motorcycles riding around the Indian roads.
The beautifully designed KTM Duke 390 is heading for India if rumors are to be believed. According to the source mentioned below, during the KTM Orange Days on February 24th, KTM will make an announcement about its future lineup. And as is expected, the Duke 390 will be their flagship model. Bigger engine, more power, faster, safer (ABS will be standard) ... and all that on a similar platform as the current Duke 200. So it makes sense.
Not only will the bike be sold in India, but probably also manufactured, making it the biggest displacement motorcycle made-in-India.

| 13 February, 2013 - Video: KTM Dealer TV Commercial | You don't see many KTM motorcycle TV commercials in the world, and even less KTM dealer ads. Here's one exception, the first one I've seen. It's a TV commercial for the KTM dealer in the state of Oregon called OMA-KTM (funny for me, since in Dutch, Oma means grandmother).
It's not bad for a dealer commercial, and as I said, it's the first KTM dealer advertisement I've seen.

| 15 January, 2013 - Dakar2013: Day 10 - KTM Report | #Dakar -Stage 9 Day 10, 1st day after day 9 which was a "rest" day for the Dakar. The first day after a rest day is always the most dangerous day on the Dakar, since riders are not as sharp as they should be.
Day 10 was also the longest of the rally, with Despres going balls-to-the-walls. But will he make it? ..........One thing is sure, Yamaha is no longer in the lead, the difference 1 day makes, but then, it's the Dakar! Poor Casteu and the unfortunate cow...

| 22 October, 2012 - Girls Ride KTM As Well, Here Is A Blouse To Prove It | It's not only alien guys like Cyril Despres and Marc Coma who get to ride KTM motorcycles. Lots of girls ride them as well, but for those that want to show their love for the Austrian motorcycle manufacturer, there's not much they can do in terms of clothing, unless they want to be a walking billboard.
But now KTM have expanded their merchandising offering with this nice blouse for the ladies. It's checkered, 100% cotton, it has elbow pads and as far as I can see, there's no KTM logo apart from something at the right bottom. But you'll find the KTM orange in the coloring of the shirt.

| 18 October, 2012 - Rally of Morocco 2012: Day 3 - Despres Drops To 2nd; Coma Withdraws | Everything has changed in the space of 24 hours on the Morocco Rally. KTM lost to Husqvarna and Honda in Stage 3, and the overall lead went to Honda.
One of the two top runners, Marc Coma, is in hospital with a dislocated shoulder, while Cyril Despres has been moved to 2nd place with 11 minutes behind the leader.

| 10 February, 2012 - Video: KTM - Fun On Ice X 3 | My friends at the Dutch motorcycle site Oliepeil decided not to be down because of the winter and the absolute freezing weather The Netherlands is having, so they decided to have some fun.
Using three KTM vehicles, and a frozen lake, they had their fun. A 500 EXC motorcycle, a 525 XC ATV and as bonus, a KTM X-BOW sports car did the trick.

Engloshman Johnny Walker took second spot, also on a KTM motorcycle.

| 5 January, 2012 - Dakar2012: Day 4 | The Dakar rally is now in full swing. All competitors are on their rhythm, but many are falling off, especially in the motorcycle field. Have the organizers made this year's edition too tough? 22 riders have withdrawn in 3 days!
It's amazing to watch the superpros battling it out, it makes the "normal" pros look ... normal. The fight between Despres and Coma is intensifying, and even a really great enduro rider like Verhoeven just doesn't get close. The fight between the two arch rivals looks like it's going to be until the last round, they are so evenly matched.

New modular Adventure motorcycles, probably a 1200, a 1000 and a 700-800 engine, with the smaller one having more off-road capabilities.
A new bigger SuperDuke with Traction Control. and more.... but you'll need to wait. Introduction will be end 2012 for model year 2013.

| 15 January, 2011 - Dakar 2011: KTM Celebrates Fantastic 10th Consecutive Victory | It's over for another year! The Dakar finished today in style, with Dutchman Frans Verhoeven winning the final stage.
Poor Chilean rider, Chaleco, who was in a good overall third position, broke his motorcycle, and is no longer on the podium.
Marc Coma wins his third Dakar, and Cyril Despres ends in 2nd overall. Helder Rodrigues on his Yamaha finished 3rd.
KTM's dominance in rally races has remained untouched, despite the 450cc rule. 8 KTMs made it to the top 10. One Yamaha and one Honda make up the rest of the top 10.

| 12 January, 2011 - Dakar 2011: Stage 10-Coma Snaps Another Vctory | The Dakar is back in Argentina, and is close to being finished. The time difference between the two top KTM motorcycle riders, Coma and Despres, is still very small. Onemishap could upset the balance.
Stage 10 was tough, specially for last year's winner, who lost a good 7 minutes on Coma. Faria, on his KTM came in 3rd.

It's a special built, not a revamped 450EXC, and in the package are the Dakar fees, a max of 2 spare engines and the motorcycle itself. Cost... a small amount..... €56,000. Gasp... and that excludes maintenance, support, logistics, etc.

| 10 February, 2010 - KTM Motorcycles To Be Bought By Bajaj For 90%? | KTM have asked Indian motorcycle manufacturer, Bajaj, to increase their shares in KTM from 30% to 90%.
Bajaj have agreed to buy up to 51% now, and the rest later. This means that the majority shareholder in KTM is now Bajaj, and that they will become the main shareholder in a few months.

Good finish for Norway (finally Pal wins, and gets 2nd overall place), and yet again the Aprilia ends in the top 3. Next year is going to be interesting with all bikes running 450cc.
Unless a miracle happens tomorrow, Despres will have won the Dakar (again).

| 13 January, 2010 - Dakar 2010: Day 13 - KTM Report | Day 13 of the Dakar, almost there.... we're back in Argentina, and the motorcycle riders have had to go through the impressive Andes mountains.
Another day, another tough stage. For a change, it was not Coma who won, but Dutchman Verhoeven, followed by USA Jonah Street. All that because of a screwup by a local cop who closed the wrong road. The top riders went wrong, the rest went right.

But what's very interesting is their website. It's an almost carbon copy of KTM's website. Same style, same technology. But no mention of KTM.
So what's the tie-up between the two companies. Do you know?
