The French government is not content with the money the current speed radars generate. Everybody slows down before one, and then speeds up on their motorcycle. That will shortly change. The government is installing 2 cameras, distant by several 10's of kilometers, that will calculate your average speed, and then ticket you if it was too fast.

There is a classic, but new, motorcycle manufacturer here in France, that is reproducing a motorcycle from 1946. Called the GIMA 125, the motorcycle is an exact copy of the old bike, apart from current legislation technical specification, such as a 4 stroke engine.

The GIMA 125 will not win any speed race, but it will use only 2.5 liters per 100 kilometers. And it's very pretty....

It would appear that Honda France is no longer honoring its warrantee on Goldwing motorcycles used by the French motorcycle taxis.

The Goldwing was never designed to work in the city environment they are working in now, and seem to have a lot of problems, which, according to this French motorcycle taxi web site, Honda will not pay for anymore.

Dilemma for Honda....

According to one of the main sponsors of the Dakar rally, France 2 (the French state owned television), the Dakar organizers are looking into moving the 2011 Dakar race back to Africa next year, but to the North East.

They have received invitations from Tunisia, Libya and Egypt to race in their countries. Decision will be made in several weeks.

Day 15 and almost last day. Here's the KTM Motorcycle report of the Dakar.

Good finish for Norway (finally Pal wins, and gets 2nd overall place), and yet again the Aprilia ends in the top 3. Next year is going to be interesting with all bikes running 450cc.

Unless a miracle happens tomorrow, Despres will have won the Dakar (again).

The new motorcycle & scooters sales for 2009 in France, at a first glance look pretty bad. Down 15.8%, but that's because they don't take the MP3 into account, since it has three wheels.

Piaggio have been selling the MP3 like hot-cakes (or hot croissants) in France, and if you take them into account, sales "only" fell 10%.

Frederic Mitterrand, nephew of the former French President, is the Minister of Culture and Communication. Mitterrand loves riding his scooter in Paris, but this winter he crashed on the icy roads (yes, he continues to ride, even in freezing temperatures).

This gave the French President Sarkozy a lot of grief, telling his Minister to stop riding "mopeds".

No class, no humor for the Prez.

It was more about the motorcycles than acting, but the movie has its moments, even some funny ones.

The motorcycle field has been decimated, but Despres's position is solid. Tomorrow is the penultimate stage, and the most technical (last year, many bit the dust).

Day 13 of the Dakar, almost there.... we're back in Argentina, and the motorcycle riders have had to go through the impressive Andes mountains.

Another day, another tough stage. For a change, it was not Coma who won, but Dutchman Verhoeven, followed by USA Jonah Street. All that because of a screwup by a local cop who closed the wrong road. The top riders went wrong, the rest went right.

A journalist working for the BBC got fired because they found out he was a member of the Hells Angels. It was discovered after the Bulldog Biker Bash in which the reporter criticized the heavy-handed approach by the local cops. The reporter, without mentioning that he also worked for the BBC, was a spokesperson for the bash.

Here's the review of a DVD documentary called Let's Riiide. It's a great documentary about riding a motorcycle in California.

3.5 hours full of motorcycles, entertainment, motorcycles, humor, motorcycles, places to visit, motorcycles, places to eat, motorcycles, tracks, motorcycles, and a few motorcycles thrown in for good measure.

It's a great DVD if you're planning to go to California to ride a bike (they even tell you where to rent them), or just as a real documentary on what it is like riding a bike in SoCal.

Not to mention the unlimited speeds on German motorways....

But will the new technical limitation slow them down? Or will ASO's new rule make the motorcycle rally less interesting?
