30 April, 2012 - TapCaps: Using Gloves With Touchscreens On Your Motorcycle
Tap Cap
USA flag
Often we have devices installed on our motorcycles that need to be "managed" while riding. GPS, music players, smartphones, XM radio, etc. It's not a good idea to do so when riding, but at times it can not be helped.

Many of these devices have touchscreens, and the problem is that often they will not work when you have gloves, especially thick motorcycle gloves.

Alice Ning invented a solution that will allow you to keep your motorcycle gloves (you can buy special touchscreen gloves, but they are expensive, and often not made for riding) and still use your touchscreen device. It's called TapCaps, and in fact it's a small sticker/patch put on the finger of your gloves, in the shape of a fingerprint, that allows you to "touch" your device, fooling it into thinking you are touching it with a normal finger.

30 April, 2012 - Cafe Racers: 1st Balneo Cafe Racer Event of Dieppe 2012
Balneo Cafe Racer Dieppe 2012
Balneo Cafe Racer Dieppe 2012
Despite tropical downpours and heavy winds, I managed to ride my motorcycle to the very first Balneo Cafe Racer event of Dieppe, a weekend long cafe racer exhibition, races, parades and demonstrations.

I managed to stay for 2 hours, and then totally soaked, I headed back home, not to return, but I did manage to make some photos of these amazing motorcycles and people.

Here are 37 photos of motorcycles, people and the area.

Road Flooded Sign High Water
Last weekend I went to the 1st annual Balneo Cafe racer event organized in Dieppe, a stone throw from where I live, but the rain made it very difficult. My trusty BMW motorcycle was having problems coping with the tropical downpour.

More about the Cafe Racer event in the next article, but this is what I saw on the way back:

30 April, 2012 - Unique Ferrari Motorcycle Sold
Ferrari 900 Motorcycle
Ferrari does not make motorcycles as we well know, despite the fact that Enzo Ferrari started his career racing motorcycles. David Kay, a British engineer, decided to make a Ferrari motorcycle to honor the brand, and in 1990 got an official permission by the Ferrari company. So in fact, this is the only "official" Ferrari motorcycle. There are several custom made motorcycles out there that have Ferrari written on them, but they are not recognized by the Italian manufacturer.

Kay's Ferrari 900, a 900 cc engine producing 105 hp at 8800 rpm, allowing the biker to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than 3 seconds, and a top speed of 160 mph, went up for auction last weekend at Bonhams.

The aluminium motorcycle, weighing only 172 kg was sold to a private, and unidentified, buyer for UK£85,000.

27 April, 2012 - France: New President? No Amnesty!
OJ get out of jail free
France flag
We're close to the second round of the French presidential elections, with two candidates leftover after the slaughter of the 1st round, when there were 10 candidates. The race to the top job is now between the socialist Francois Hollande and the conservative and current president Nicolas Sarkozy.

It has been a tradition here in France, when a president gets elected, on his first day of office, to grant a general amnesty. Obviously convicts who are about to be released get an earlier expected "get-out-of-jail" card, but also car and motorcycle owners who have been caught speeding, badly parking and running red lights get their outstanding tickets torn up. In fact, I remember under the previous socialist government of Mitterand, I had over 500 parking fines that I had not paid that were cancelled. So it was worth it to hold on to tickets and not pay them.

But no longer! Both candidates have let it be known that they will not grant any amnesty, not for convicts, not for tickets.

27 April, 2012 - Videos: 6 x Belgium Safety Ads
Video clip
Belgium Eye Each Other
Almost every country has them; motorcycle PSA focussed around safety. Motorcycle safety advertisements come in two flavors; cars need to watch out for bikes, or bikes need to watch out for everything else.

Here are 6 TV ads from Belgium of the first kind, cars need to watch out for bikers. Each commercial starts the same, a few seconds of a surreal image of a car and a motorcycle ridden by an eye. That is because the campaign is called "Eye each other", i.o.w., keep an eye out for each other. The campaign site, Go For Zero is both in French and Flemish.

After the 4 seconds of watching eyes driving vehicles, we come to the ad itself. To be honest, I'm disappointed, since the ads are pretty bland. But it does tell car drivers that they need to watch out for motorcycles, and that is a good thing. Better a bland ad than no ad. Right?

26 April, 2012 - Royal Enfield: Fuel Economy Race
Royal Enfield BVM Fuel Run 2012
Royal Enfield logo
The Gloucestershire dealer of Royal Enfield motorcycle, BVM, had organized on the 14th of April a special race for Royal Enfield owners. Not a speed race, nor an endurance race, but a race to see who could beat the factory quoted Miles Per Gallon figure of 79 mpg.

Two categories Enfields were organized, motorcycles with EFI and ones with carburetors. The "race" was held on a 39 mile stretch of road.

The winner of the most economical run was a Royal Enfield Fury, riding the distance at 96.93 mph, the runner up did 92.76 and third best ran at 92.20 mpg. Despite riding a road with many steep climbs, they bettered the factory average by 22%.

26 April, 2012 - Italy: Milan Police Dump Their 108 Electric Scooters
Oxygen Milan Police
Oxygen logo
#Electric #Police - Back in 2003, the municipal police of the city of Milan, Italy bought 108 electric scooters made by Oxygen, the Italian electric motorcycle maker. The 108 electric scoots were meant for the local police to patrol the streets of Milan; safely, quietly and with no pollution.

But instead of patrolling the streets, the 108 scooters are stored in some storage area, and not used. Abandoned! The reason? The batteries do not work, and make it impossible to ride.

So instead of doing something about it, the city has binned the scooters, worth some .......

It sounds sexual, and maybe it is intended, but this TV commercial is for Throttlepack from Vance and Hines. Installing it, apparently, will help you keep up with female motorcycle riders.

So there you go, if you are overtaken by a woman riding a motorcycle, she probably has a Throttlepack installed..... or she just can ride better and faster than you, and her bike is better and faster than yours.

25 April, 2012 - USA: New Electric Motorcycle Speed Test Procedure
Speeding-sign
USA flag
You might think it's a bit strange, but it's not. The Motorcycle Industry Council of the USA (MIC) have introduced a procedure to test and validate the top speeds of electric motorcycles.

Until now, a manufacturer of e-bikes could announce whatever he wanted for top speeds for their motorcycles. Vaporware? Fantasyware? Anything could go, since they would "test" their motorcycles under lab conditions, removing all aerodynamic drag factors from the bikes (like mirrors, top case, etc), use very skinny riders weighing next to nothing, and then publish a top speed for their bikes that no person would ever reach in real life.

MIC have now published a series of procedures for testing electric motorcycle's top speeds. In summary, the procedures entail:

24 April, 2012 - Ad: Don’t Let The Drink Drive You
Cadd Drunk Riding

In a very artistic advertisement, the following print ad was made by JWT for CADD, Community Against Drunk Driving, in India.

The artwork is very well done, but as messages go, it disappears in the art. By looking at the "motorcycle", made out of body parts, you can not see what it's about. It's only when you see the bottom tag line, "Don't let the drink drive you", that you understand what it is.

24 April, 2012 - Study Shows Scooters Safer Than Motorcycles
Statistics Article
Australia flag
A study undertaken by the Queensland University of Technology’s Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety in Australia has determined that scooters are safer than mopeds and motorcycles.

Moped as we all know are very dangerous despite the fact that they don't go very fast. Limited to 50cc, and often limited to 50 kph, they can not go fast, but they are very mobile and dodge in and out of traffic, as do motorcycles and scooters. But mopeds are ridden by youngsters with little or no training and experience, so that if the study shows they have the biggest accident & mortality rate, it's no surprise.

But according to the Australian university study, scooters are better off than motorcycles. When they are involved in an accident, 1% of the scooter riders will die, while 3.4% of the motorcycle riders will buy the farm.

23 April, 2012 - Monaco: Unique Auction, Including Ducati MotoGP Motorcycles

Ducati Desmosedici GP10 CS1 (2010)
RM Auctions are going to have a ball in Monaco. On May 11th, they will be auctioning off the Carlo Saltarelli collection of Ducati motorcycles. Saltarelli was a Ducati motorcycle tester and a big Ducati dealer. His private collection includes many vintage bikes (some 100 bikes), including several Ducati Scramblers, a GT Police Bike and even a 1947 Ducati Cucciolo 48 and a 1950 Ducati 60.

Going through the on-line catalog is an event on its own, so if you have some time on your hands, head on over. It's the only thing that will not cost you any money.

Apart from the Saltarelli collection going under the hammer, Ducati is also bringing in for auction the race bikes used by Casey Stoner, Ducati Desmosedici GP10 « CS1 » (the world championship bike with 4232 km on the counter), and last year's Ducati Desmosedici GP11 « VR2 » of Valentino Rossi (the bike has only 2342 km done).

20 April, 2012 - e-bikes, Electric Motorcycles, To Become Cheaper
Electric motorcycle vending machine
It's kind of a headline that is so obvious, that I might have said "Next year, there will be taxes", or "the sun will rise tomorrow morning". The real question is BY HOW MUCH?

The reason electric motorcycle, also known as e-bikes, are going to drop in price is not because they are selling like hot cakes, or croissants in my part of the world. Because they are not. The amounts sold as a whole is still less than the smallest "normal" motorcycle manufacturer. And maybe that is because they are still expensive, so seen more as a toy than a normal vehicle.

The reason electric motorcycles are dropping in price is because the most expensive element of the bike, the battery, is dropping in price. An estimated 25% or more of the price of an e-bike is the battery.

For those of you, especially in the UK, who are looking to do something interesting on the 28th and 29th of April 2012, here's an idea. A short ferry hop to the city of Dieppe in North France, and you will faced with the first Cafe Racer event of the city.

Called the Balneo Cafe Racer Days de Dieppe, the weekend-long event focuses on cafe racers. Some 200 cafe racers will be gathering alongside the beach front, with Saturday afternoon a parade through the city followed by a 200 meter sprint race. Sunday will see demonstrations of these special motorcycles on a 1200 meter long circuit.

A couple of big names will be present during the weekend. names like Jim Redman, Dave Hailwood (the son of "Mike the Bike" Hailwood), Paul Smart, Ron Chandler and others will be there.

Entrance is free, and if you want, there are camping grounds close by in the towns surrounding the city, plus a plethora of hotels & B&Bs. And all things considered, I should be attending the event, so expect photos the following day for those of you who will be missing the event.

20 April, 2012 - France: Excellent Motorcycle Protest This Important Weekend
Biker Voting
France flag
Usually a motorcycle protest here in France, involves lots of motorcycles riding slowly through cities and motorways, blocking traffic, generating bedlam everywhere as much as possible. It usually works, and bikers, despite being a pain in the *$$ are supported by the general population.

But this weekend's protest is going to be different, very different. This Sunday is an important day for France, since it's the 1st round of the presidential elections. 10 candidates are up for the top job, and during the whole of the day, voting booths will be open all over the country.

What the French Federation of Angry Bikers (FFMC) are asking is that the bikers that are going to vote, go around 10:00 AM, and go dressed in full ATGATT gear. If enough bikers go and vote at the same time, all dressed up in full gear, it should become a clear message to the round 2 candidates:- BIKERS DO VOTE!

It's a great idea, since no one is bothered by the protest (well, maybe the old lady standing next to a big biker at the voting booth), and it does send a clear message that bikers do vote, so do not forget us in your policies.

It's probably why so many women die on their roads.

19 April, 2012 - Doing Something About Electric Scoooter Silence - Domino Pizza Way
Video clip
Domino Pizza logo
Electric motorcycles and scooters are great... they use no gasoline, they don't pollute, and they run quite silently. And that can be a problem. With pedestrians used to traffic that makes noise, even the most quiet car makes a lot of noise when driving, an electric motorcycle or scooter can become dangerous. Pedestrians can walk onto the road thinking there is no traffic, cyclists can get hurt when an electric vehicle overtakes them, etc.

Authorities all over the world have been contemplating laws that will ensure that an electric vehicle makes some noise. But their search is over. Domino Pizzas in The Netherlands has come up with the best solution. Their electric pizza delivery scooters criss-cross the Dutch cities delivering piping hot pizzas, and Domino decided to not only make them safer for the rest of the traffic, but also do a bit of advertising at the same time.

If you look, and listen, to the video below, you'll hear the electric scooter riding through traffic, while the scooter "talks" to the cyclists and pedestrians. What it is saying is "Domino's Domino's Domino's Yummy Yummy Yummy Domino's Domino's Domino's Domino Pizzas".

So this way the traffic is safe, AND they advertise their pizzas at the same time. I just wouldn't want to be one of their delivery boys; having to hear the recording the whole time will make me want to ride into one of the many canals of Amsterdam.

Despite a rather predictable, but still funny TV commercial, the Vespa Perfect Curves is not bad, depending on when it was made. You know when you see the guy exulting the virtues of the body, curves and that he must mount her, that he's not talking about the pretty & sexy girl.

Still, it's worth a giggle.

18 April, 2012 - Keep Your Motorcycle Boots Dry With A Dryer
Klim boot dryer
To many, especially street riders, having one of these devices is superfluous. A machine to dry your boots? But for many off-road motorcycle riders it can be the difference between a great ride, and an uncomfortable one.

If your boots get wet because of rain, rivers and mud banks, that's just part of off-road life. But once you're finished and you take your boots off, it's another game altogether. If you plan to ride shortly thereafter, like in the next few hours, or even the next day, your boots will probably not dry out in time. And riding with wet boots is anything but fun....

That's where this machine comes in. It's the Klim Boot Dryer, and it can dry out your motorcycle boots within an hour. You can put 4 garments on the machine, like your boots and gloves, and 1 hour later, they are not only dry, but odor and bacteria free.

It's something that the FIM needs to address properly if they want to make this an interesting race.

16 April, 2012 - A Photographic Visit Of The Magny-Cours Circuit
Magny Cours Finish Line

I realize that not many people get to visit the Magny-Cours circuit here in France, let alone visit the "special" and off-limit areas. So after my little visit to the circuit for the FIM e-Power race (which wasn't much of a race), I've decided to show you a lot of photos of the circuit. Most of them were taken really early in the morning (Friday 13th). Magny-Cours, together with the Le Mans Bugatti circuit are the two main race circuits in France, hosting races for the MotoGP, World SuperBike, Formula 1 and of course the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This weekend was the other large 24 hours endurance motorcycle race, that of the Bol d'Or.

The one thing you'll notice at this circuit, the same as with the other French motorcycle races, is the incredible noise, 24 hours per day. It's not the race bikes, but the bikers who have come to attend the race and are camping around the circuit. All the time, and I mean all the time, there are several who are revving up their bikes, spitting and flaming. At 6 AM in the morning of the 13th you could still hear them. A pity if you need to sleep....

Here are 44 photos of the circuit I've taken. You can click on any photo for a bigger version, but if you are going to do that, let the whole page load with all its photos.

13 April, 2012 - Electric vs Gas Powered - A Video Look
Video clip
I used my trusty iPhone 4 smartphone's video camera to shoot some video of some of the motorcycles doing their free practise runs at the Bol d'Or at Magny-Cours. Obviously I also filmed the e-Power electric motorcycles, so here's a brief video clip of not only the e-bikes, but also comparing them in the same curve with a "normal" bike.

The "normal" motorcycles were the Bol d'Argent category, so not full race endurance motorcycles. The first bit is a warm up lap for the e-bikes, followed by a fast lap, followed by a "normal" bike, followed again by 2 more of the electric ones.

I think you'll need to start getting used to seeing more and more footage of electric bike races, but it might take much longer if I look at FIM's attempt at organizing the e-Power race. It's just comical, and I'm not talking about the teams, but the organization.

Apart from the premature e-bike race, the FIM e-Power, and the always impressive sidecars, the main pre-event for the Bol d'Or race is the Bol d'Argent. For those who don't read French, "Or" means gold, "Argent" means silver. The "Or" are the supersports bikes racing for 24 hours, the "Argent" are stock road bikes, racing for 3 hours. Any stock bike will do, single, bi or 100 cylinders.

The Bol d'Or gets enough publicity, so here are some action shots of the Bol d'Argent qualifiers for your amusement.

#Video #Off-Road #Motorcycles - Riding off road on your motorcycle is not the easiest way of riding a motorcycle. Therefore, it's a young person's sport. Right?

Wrong! In this 20 minute, well filmed documentary, you see it's all in your mind. Just because you've passed the age of 50/60 years, doesn't mean you can not go riding into the rough stuff. e Power Magny Cours
e Power Magny Cours
#electric #FIM - As you may gather form the title, I am not amused. I planned to spend the weekend covering the 1st leg of the FIM e-Power race, electric race motorcycle, in the world championship.

To my surprise, and dismay, there are only three teams present at Magny-Cours. I heard from the stewards that it's an improvement, since last year there were only 2 electric motorcycles.

It's a pity that FIM is not throwing in a lot of their weight to promote the category. Paying for teams to attend (like the USA ones), would make the event much more interesting. I for one, am not planning to get up early in the morning to see the qualifiers or even the race, since it's not a real race if there are only 3 bikes. It's more a comical farce.

#Music #Rock - I've already mentioned them before, I've got a good friend who plays professionally for a heavy rock band in the UK that is starting to make it big. With sold out concerts throughout the UK, The Mercy House has just released their first album, and it's a winner.

Lovers of heavy rock will dig this band. It's getting great reviews from the publishing industry, and they are going to be on their way to the very top. It's a name to note, since you'll be hearing more of them in the years to come.

Nope, it's got nothing to do with motorcycles, none of the band members ride one, but the music they play is great to listen to when riding. The album, A BROKEN STATE OF BLISS, will be released on the 23th of April.

#Electric #Motorcycles #FIM: I'm on the road again, gone to the races. No, not horse races, but electric motorcycle races. I've planned to see the first leg of the international championships of the FIM e-Power races at Magny-Cours, France this weekend.

I've decided it is time to start looking at these races more seriously if we want electric motorcycles to advance in technology. The only way electric bikes will improve rapidly is via competition, since that is what will drive them to make them ride faster, and for longer distances.

Unfortunately, FIM and other organizers still don't look at this category seriously. The E-Power race is the first race on the agenda (the main event is the Bol d'Or 24 hour endurance race), starting on Saturday 9 AM..... 9 AM??? We'll be lucky to see the racers show up at that time....forget about any public and press (except me).

I'll be sending out photos to my Facebook and Twitter accounts, not only from the e-Power race and qualifiers, but also the sidecar and Bol d'Or categories.

You probably all know by now that Greece is in deep financial shit. Their debt is out of this world, and the likes of Goldman and politicians have been milking the country dry for years. Salaries have been slashed, particularly for government employees, pensions cut, investments stopped and taxes (for those few who pay them) raised. Not a colorful situation.

In order to cope with rising cost, and lower salaries, the Greek police force is now hiring out their cops to private individuals or companies. So if you are going to the latest "in" spot in town, and want to arrive in style, you can now arrive with a couple of police motorcycle escorts. Flashing lights, sirens; that will get people's attention. For sure it'll get you in the door without having to queue up.

Rates are reasonable....

10 April, 2012 - Find Out What Your Lean Angles Are On The Track, Like A Pro
LeanoMeter Display
LeanoMeter Data
Most professionals when they ride their motorcycle on a track, measure several data items; amongst others the lean angle (or better know as inclination), the G-force encountered, acceleration, etc. Although some modern sportsbike are able to measure some of this data on their own, there's a gadget for those that can not, and want to.

Called the LeanoMeter, the device is self-sufficient and self-standing (in other words, you don't need to wire it to your motorcycle). Place it on your bike, and watch the figures as you evolve through the track. Two modes are available, SafeDisplay, the data are shown after you have taken a curve, and Live Mode, a mode to be used when you have mounted an external camera so you can analyze your behavior and performance after wards.

Funny. Turkish PR firm, Big, made this print advertisement which is funny, and well thought out, especially if you look at the text.

The Harley-Davidson ad reads "Nothing can replace the real one. Use original Harley-Davidson parts". Smart if you look at the pillion passenger...

6 April, 2012 - Listen To Music On Your Motorcycle, But Still Hear Traffic
Earhero
I hear it all the time. Bikers who do not want to listen to music while riding their motorcycle because they are afraid they will not hear the traffic noise. Like a car hitting the brakes to avoid you, squealing past you. Like a cop car behind you trying to get you to pull over for a cavity search. Like that pretty girl (guy) whistling at you to pull over for some fun.

Well, if that is your worry your time for on-the-road-entertainment has come. EarHero is a company that produces earbuds (earphones) of a special kind. They look like regular earbuds, but they have been made in such a way that you can still hear what is going on around you.

6 April, 2012 - 1st Backflip With An Electric Motorcycle
Video clip
The 1st #backflip on an #electric motorcycle? Apparently, during the Paris X-Trial championships held last week, the public got to see the first backflip on an electric motorcycle.

Backflips are common in extreme sports, you get to see them in almost every X-Games show, but apparently this the first time it has been accomplished with an electric motorcycle. The whole idea of a backflip rests on a proper weight distribution, which on an electric bike is different. The rider, Christophe Bruand, did the backflip on an Electric Motion trial motorcycle.

Here's the video of the flip (narrated in French).

5 April, 2012 - Video: Safety - US Navy Style
Video clip
US Navy logo
As you may know, many of the armed forces personnel ride motorcycles, and many die on the road. All the branches of the military are trying to do something about it, and most have released safety videos for their men & women to see.

The US Navy is no exception, and this safety video highlights the ATGATT principle. Of course, it wouldn't be military if there weren't any acronyms. Obviously we know ATGATT, but PPE is new to me. This stands for Personal Protective Equipment....

You'll be glad to know that the Navy has not used up much of your tax dollars to make the video, but then, if you want to get a message across, you don't need to hire Spielberg to make the video.

5 April, 2012 - To Satisfy Even The Most Strict Motorcycle Visibility Rules
Glowing Hi Viz Vest
France is not the only country in the world that is demanding that their motorcycle riders wear high visibility (Hi-Viz) clothing. More and more countries want their bikers to be visible on the road when they ride their motorcycles. Whether this is good or bad is another debate.

LumiGram, a company specialized in making all sorts of objects that glow in the dark (from tables to dresses), now have this glowing safety vest. It's battery operated, and it will make sure you are seen, day or night. In fact, I'd say that it might provoke an adverse reaction of cagers, that of target fixation.

5 April, 2012 - Proper Motorcycle Balance and Weight Distribution Is Vital
Balancing the motorcycle
Knowing how to properly balance and distribute weight on your motorcycle is as important as load balancing an airplane. Knowing how is move your CoG (Center of Gravity) can not only prevent serious problems when riding, but also make your ride smooth....

... something this bloke really know how to do...

4 April, 2012 - Where To Store Your Earbuds? In Your Ears?
Headphone Ear Storage
Headphone Ear Storage
Many of us bikers use earbuds or ear plugs to prevent us from going deaf on our motorcycle, or just to listen to music when riding. I myself have a nice, custom-made, earphone that gets inserted in my ears, and connected into my iPod.

But the problem is when you're finished with them. Some of these earbuds arrive with a small pouch to store them, but the problem is the wire. It always gets tangled, and before you go on your next ride, you need to untangle them.

Here's a solution for you.

4 April, 2012 - Belgium: Massive Motorcycle Protest Organized For 28 April
FBMC FFMC Protest 201204
Belgium flag
Motorcycle riders are not happy, and they should be happy. More and more countries are making our lives impossible, piling up regulations, repressing us on the roads, and in general make our lives miserable. Throw on top of that a bunch of technocrats in Brussels who can think of nothing better to do then make strange and often stupid laws for all of Europe, and you get anarchy.

France is known for its motorcycle protests, but now it's its neighbor, Belgium, who is taking to the roads. The Belgium Association of Angry Bikers (FBMC), with help of the French FFMC, is planning an all-out motorcycle protest ride on April 28th.

4 April, 2012 - Video: Fabio And His Electric Motorcycle
Video clip
Fabio Motorcycle Collection
Here's an interesting "documentary" from PlugInAmerica. It's all about electric cars and motorcycles, and it is hosted by the beautiful Alexandra Paul (remember her from Baywatch?). In this episode the subject is Fabio, one of the big name male models.

Fabio has a collection of 100's of motorcycles (and cars), equal to that of Jay Leno, and in this documetnary episode, he talks to us about electric cars and motorcycles. He has just become the proud owner of a Zero electric motorcycle, and you get to see him ride around (fast).

A nice print advertisement from Yamaha, telling us all that the wait is over, summer (spring) is here and we can dust of our motorcycles and start riding again.

Nice, the photos says it all.

3 April, 2012 - Video: A Positive Motorcycle Safety Ad
Video clip
You know those motorcycle safety commercials they show on TV? Anywhere in the world, you'll see them ... often brutal, usually shocking. Their main strategy is to shock you into thinking about safety, either as a car driver, but more often as a motorcycle rider.

But it doesn't need to be so. Carma in Australia are several companies and institutions that promote road safety. They have amongst others produced this motorcycle safety TV advertisement.

It's a positive one. No accidents, no motorcycles or human beings were hurt. It's nice to see a positive safety campaign for once.

Myanmar Elections Bullhorn

Most people when riding their motorcycle in traffic use a horn to warn off cages, but it look like in Myanmar, they've got a different method.

To each their own, I guess...

2 April, 2012 - Help Fund This Project To See A Funny Biker TV Series
Video clip
The Clandestine Header
You may or not have heard about the latest motorcycle "TV" series that has hit the wonderful web. The Clandestine is a Northern Irish web series that might well make it to the TV. You see the first episode below.

The series is a well done, professionally recorded and edited, with a good script, comedy about a bunch of businessmen, who during the day, dressed in their suites and ties, run a boring business life, and in the evening become a 1%-er motorcycle gang called the Clandestine. It's the Sons of Anarchy meet The Office.

The idea is currently running at Kickstarter (a website that helps get funding for any type of project), and the producers are looking for money to finish this year's episodes. The idea is that you can help pitch in some money. They have a goal of reaching US$25,000, and if the goal is not met, you'll not have to pay a dime. When you pledge (you can pledge anything starting at $1), you leave your credit card details. Once the pledge amount is reached, your money goes to the project.

2 April, 2012 - Bol d’Or: 1 Biker Rest Area Cancelled Due To Police Action
Relais Calmos 27
Relais Motards Calmos logo
One of the three Relais Calmos, the Biker rest areas, for the upcoming Bol d'Or motorcycle endurance race, has been cancelled.

The reason? Police presence last year made it impossible to organize one of the safe rest places, forcing bikers to continue their long journey towards the Magny-Cours circuit.

What is supposed to be an area for safety reasons, is going to become a danger area. That you police, and thank you French government for making our lives more dangerous.
