Last Touquet Rally - End Of World’s Biggest Enduro

Sad News !

World's largest motorcycle Enduro race, the Touquet Enduro, will hold its final and last race on 5 and 6 February this year. Some 300,000+ spectators and 1,000 motorcycles (and 240 quads) are expected.

The Touquet City Hall (Le Touquet is a town situated on the Northern coast of France, close to Calais) has finally bowed to the political pressure from environment groups to stop the rally !

The race is held partially in the dunes, and that is what the environmentalists are protesting about. It's a pity that such a world event has to close down because of a few people with strange ideas, but we live in a world where minorities rule !

The Touquet Enduro is organized by ASO, the same people who bring you the Dakar Rally, and the Tour de France !

    Le Touquet Enduro 2005

    Worse news!

    I own a guest house here in Le Touquet and heard today the 2005 edition may not be the last race - it may not take place at all!

    The ASO has said in a press release on their website "A.S.O. has informed the Mayor of Le Touquet of its decision to cancel the 2005 edition of Enduro" { Link }

    Discussions are under way today between the City Hall and the ASO and an announcement will me made tomorrow Friday 21st Jan.

    Bummer

    You must be royally pissed of. I'd guess that you (and others in Le Touquet) did well when the Enduro comes to town....

    R I P Le Touquet Enduro

    It's offical: The Enduro is no more and will not be held for one last time in 2005. The hoteliers and restauranteurs are furious at only 2 weeks notice not to mention the competitors who've been in training for months and who've invested a fortune in their bikes.

    The word is that the quads race will go ahead in the future as it is only held on the beach not the dunes. It's to be called the Quaduro but no one is saying yet whether it will go ahead this year.

    The end of an era :-((
