Those of you watching the Dakar 2007 will no doubt have seen all the professional KTM motorcycle riders with some "strange" device around their neck. The device is a Neck Brace and was developed between BMW, KTM and Dr. Chris Leatt {link}. The Neck Brace is supposed to save lives, specially in enduro or other off-road motorcycle sports. Until now, only official KTM riders were able to get their hands on the Neck Brace. As off March 2007, the Neck Brace goes on sale at KTM (and we presume BMW) shops. Here in France, it will set you back €499 ! That's the price you'll need to pay for your life ! According to the Dakar winner Cyril Despres; "I can not imagine a rally without a neck protection. Of course you need some time to adapt, but afterwards, you do not feel it anymore. During the training, I crashed while riding very fast, and the helmet got hit very hard. Normally after such a crash, I'll have a pain in my neck for days afterwards. But with the Neck Brace, nothing ! That means the system works."
