Belgiums Show The Way

Already 2 years ago, Belgium had adopted a rule allowing motorcycles to split lanes when in heavy traffic, making it legal to do so (in sharp contrast with other countries where this practice is tolerated). Now, the Belgium Motorcycle Council has obtained a Royal decree allowing motorcycles to park their bikes in the sidewalk, as long as they leave 1m50 for pedestrians to pass ! (reference: Point 5 - in Flemish)

In the same Royal decree, they have also obtained the right, for certain motorcycles (125cc), to use the bicycle paths !

Belgium would seem to be one of the more forward thinking, motorcycle-friendly, nations on this earth. How long will it be before the political powers in the other countries take note ! (I guess it does help that King Albert II of Belgium is a biker....)

Click here to read the Royal decree (French/Flemish .PDF file).

Bravo Belgium !
