US based GPS manufacturer Garmin is suing Dutch GPS Manufacturer Tom Tom (the manufacturer of the motorcycle specific GPS, the Tom Tom Rider). The reason for the lawsuit; 5 patent infringements ! Garmin are alleging that Tom Tom are illegally using a Garmin technology for displaying maps on a small screen. This technology calculates which streets are to be shown on a small map, while others that are not important for the route, are hidden. Obviously, Tom Tom are denying Garmin's claims, and will be defending themselves in court. Garmin are looking for a unspecified financial damages. Shares in Garmin jumped 8.1 percent, while shares in Tom Tom dropped 2.7 %. Looks like there's not enough space in the market for tow or three GPS manufacturers....
