Any product that involves the safety of motorcycle riders is a good product for me to look into. Tank grips are no exceptions; they been around for I guess as long as motorcycles have been, but here's one that a little bit more interesting.

TechSpecs Tank Grip KTM Motorcycle
US based TechSpecs produce a large series of tank protectors/grips, for a wide variety of motorcycles. They offer different materials, depending on your requirements, ranging from "snake skin", to high fusion synthetic rubber, to ice grip and to laser etch.

All materials offer some special advantage, so you need to know what you're looking for.

They have a lot of precut grips, ready to install on your motorcycle. The KTM example has the grip cut-out in the form of the KTM letters... nifty.

TechSpecs Tank Grip BMW Motorcycle
The grips can be in the form of the tank of the motorcycle in question, or you can make your own. Here's one for the BMW R1200GS.

The advantages of using special non-slide grips are:
  • Increased control of your body position on the motorcycle
  • No longer will you slide into the tank, that goes double if you have a pillion
  • Improve your riding style, decrease body fatigue
  • Protects your motorcycle tank

They're not obviously something that will dramatically improve the above, but it will add some extra...and for some 30 $, it's worth it...
