Most GPS users one time or another will have wanted to see real 3D navigation on their GPS. Not that 2D with 3D effect, but real 3D. Like video games. Or a flight simulator. Well... wish no more. Coming soon to a GPS screen close to you. 3DLabs have developed a 3D GPS navigation system that shows you the road and buildings like you'd see when riding your motorcycle (or if you're riding your motorcycle in a video game): They used a 3D model of Paris, and showed their new interface at a congress in Barcelona. The 3D system used Tele Atlas navigation system (a leader in mapping systems) with their own software to produce real 3D maps. You see the buildings the way you'd see them in real life. The first units should be available in September of this year. I guess if your GPS has got many signals and thereby is really accurate, you could use the GPS to navigate during heavy fog... Next step, photo realistic 3D maps... For more photos and a video, click here (French text) For more information, click here.
