After several years of fighting the motorcyclist, the French government last week took several steps back and decided to play "nice". In a meeting with the French Angry Biker Association (FFMC) and the French Motorcycle Federation (FFM), the Minister of Transport, Dominique Perben announced that: - A module would be inserted in the car driver license test that would create an awareness of motorcycles on the road
- A "good practices and code of conduct" for riding in traffic for motorcycles would be investigated
- Government sponsorship to open racing circuits for general motorcycles
- Government sponsorship to create more racing circuits
- Investigate urban roads for more motorcycle friendliness
- Take into account motorcycles in city traffic, and their parking issues
All-in-all, a positive move, after years of penalizing motorcycles. Maybe those years of protest rides, increase of the number of motorcyclists (and therefore voters) and common sense is finally paying off. Maybe there's still hope for us....
