 As reported by Gizmo; for those of you who didn't know it; DARPA have organized a $ 1 Million contest involving a 250 mile race through the desert, from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. Nothing special so far, but the interesting thing is that no-one is allowed to ride the vehicles! They have to be robots driving themselves. So this is a big technology challenge, since the contestants need to build a vehicle that not only will be able to ride through the desert by itself (with all its pitfalls - no pun intended), but also navigate and make decisions by itself. All this while under race pressure, i.e., arrive faster than anyone else. Out of the 25 contestants riding out on the 13th of March this year, 1 of them is a motorcycle !!! Yes, indeed, a motorcycle that will be riding itself, with no-one riding on top of it, except a series of gyros and sophisticated computers. The idea is from Berkely University's
