According to USA Motorcycle Industry Council more and more women are starting to ride their own motorcycles. Not only do they own their own bikes, but they have also started female-only biker clubs.

Female motorcycle riders are not the stereotype Hollywood bikers; gum chewing, cigarette smoking, tattoos, greasy hair, but are "normal" people, with real jobs and real money. According to the council, the average salary of the female riders is $55,850 ! That, of course, is a figure that will interest the motorcycle manufacturers !
The number of females who have gone from riding pillion to riding the bike in the US, has risen significantly between 1998 and 2003. To be exact, there were 36% more female riders, totalling 635,000 riders today (from 467,400 in 1998).
Harley-Davidson have stated that the number of ladies riding their brand motorcycles has risen from 600 motorcycles in 1980 to 30,000 in 2005. And more and more women flock to the motorcycle dealers everyday.
The reason women ride motorcycles is not different to the reason men ride; escaping everyday's doldrums, open roads and the friendship of bikers.
