Motorcycle blogger and journalist, Carla King, mentioned in her article yesterday {link} the sales statistics of new motorcycles in the USA during 2004. It would appear that according to the MIC (Motorcycle Industry Council), new motorcycle sales have passed the one million mark in the USA !! The best sold motorcycle was the cruiser, followed by sports motorcycles. Of the 1,050,000 motorcycles sold, 10 % of them were sold to females ! MIC publish the sales of new motorcycles starting in 1993 Year - Units sold 1992 - 278,000 1993 - 293,000 1994 - 306,000 1995 - 309,000 1996 - 330,000 1997 - 356,000 1998 - 432,000 1999 - 546,000 2000 - 710,000 2001 - 850,000 2002 - 936,000 2003 - 1,001,000 The interesting fact is when you read their press release, during 1973, 1,5 million motorcycles were sold !!! They don't really explain why the drop of sales at the end of the 70's, but one can guess.... On the Motorcycle Industry Council website, there's an interesting Adobe .PDF document about riding motorcycles, specially for first timers, or people who are interested {link}.
