Well, after years of doing it the old fashion way, the French government finally realized how profitable (motorcycle) speeding fines are, and have implemented a high tech approach. Previously, when you received a speeding ticket, you needed to go to your local post office, get an official government stamp of the value of the fine, stick it on your fine, mail it to the government and wait until the fine was processed. No longer !! As off today, you can go to a website (amendes.gouv.fr - meaning fines.gouvernment), enter the 14 digit fine number, select Visa or MasterCard credit cards, and you're in business !! If you disagree with the speeding fine, you still need to pay it, fill in the electronic form contesting the fine, and than have the bureaucratic nightmare take over. In the old days, you never, ever, sent a bank check, since that meant the gouvernment had your bank account details on record, and could deduct your fine if you did not pay. So I presume, that if I pay by credit card, I run the same risk, that if I don't pay, they will deduct it automatically anyway from my credit card. What happens if I use someone else's credit card ?? Anyway, the issue is not one for me, since I can no longer speed on my motorcycle as I have only 2 points left of my precious 12. I need to behave for three years, or else I'll be riding a moped.
