The Association of European Motorcycle Manufacturers (ACEM) are in the habit of producing very high quality and well researched documents. This document is no exception. Called "Guidelines for Powered Two-Wheelers - Safer Road Design in Europe", this extensive study of motorcycle safety in Europe (and beyond) is very revealing. The document was handed out today at the Intertraffic (trade fair for road infrastructure and traffic management) in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The obvious targets for the document are the governments and their road construction agencies, BUT, any motorcycle rider should read this document. It explains very well all the dangers we face on the road, often ones we are not aware of. Their topics are well researched, thanks to intensive studies on motorcycle accidents. For example, this diagram explains how your peripheral vision narrows the faster you ride your motorcycle. It's obvious, and I'm sure we all know it, but this diagram shows you exactly by how much. The document also has humorous drawings, but they do illustrate their points. The document shows in length (92 pages) all the hidden and obvious dangers we face everyday while riding our motorcycles. It's a real interesting read ! Congratulations ACEM !!! Great document. Click here to read or download it (Adobe Acrobat format).
