Cote d'Amor, Brittany

Not really Love Coast, but Cote d'Armor (close enough). We spent 5 days in the Brittany (Bretagne) area of the Cote d'Armor, which starts at the impressive Mont St. Michel and stretches out some 400 kilometers alongside the Bay of the Mt. St. Michel.

A gite is like a B&B (Bed and Breakfast). You can rent rooms, usually well furnished with bed, bath/shower and even often a kitchen and laundry facilities. Often gites have a Table d'Hote, which, for a small fee, allows you to eat at the host's table. Food is potluck, you eat what they've prepared that day, and if there are other guests, you all eat on one table.
We stayed at an incredible gite called the Chateau de Mont Dol. The owner, Yannick, not only is a great guy, but also the former private Chef (cook) of Aga Khan, the French Ambassador to the UK and other celebrities. You can rent one of his rooms and eat at his table for very reasonable prices, specially considering that the food he prepares is unbelievable. Needless to say, we've put on weight, despite a lean "cuisine", the food was just too good...

This gite is a small chateau (castle), surrounded by high walls. In the evening he closes the gates, so our motorcycle was quite safe. The room price includes a very large breakfast, with all bread baked by himself. There's nothing better than fresh warm bread in the morning...

The Cote d'Amor coast line is motorcycle heaven. You have hundreds of kilometers of small winding roads travelling alongside massive cliffs made out of pink granite, forests, beaches and small towns.

Everywhere you go you'll see oyster farms. You can eat fresh oysters the whole day long, and pay only pennies.

If you're into hiking, you're in the right place ! You can literally hike along the entire coast line. 100's of kilometers of hiking paths can be followed for weeks without ever walking on the same path !

Apart from the many fishing villages, churches, cliffs and beautiful houses, you can also find several interesting fortresses and castles around. Most can be visited.
