After my many long distance motorcycle rides, I've always been worried about the contents of my tankbag. Usually the topcase and sidebags are closed and locked, quite difficult to open and steal stuff out. However, that is not the case for the tankbag. First of all, the tankbag can be easily taken off entirely, and secondly, anything that will lock the zips is going to be flimsy.
Since my tankbag holds valuables needed for any trip (money, camera, papers), it means I need to detach the tankbag from the motorcycle for every stop. Not always easy, specially if you're stopping for a nature break, or to pay at some customs house. So I've started looking for a way to protect the tankbag and its contents without my hassle.
It's not easy! There are alarm system around that will protect your precious motorcycle, and allow you to protect your topcase and sidebags (using magnetic contacts) but I couldn't find anything for the tankbag.
Then the idea struck me. Stop looking for special tankbag alarms, and concentrate on normal luggage. One of the items you find everywhere are alarms that detect if the luggage moves away from the transmitter, so that's no good for my problem (that only solves stealing the tankbag).
Then I found this solution; Doberman Bag Protector Alert SE-0304 ! A very simple device that you place on one of the straps of your tankbag (could even be the zipper tags).
Any movement of the device sets off the 100 decibel alarm ! If you insert it between the zip straps, no-one can open the tankbag. There's even an emergency pin you can pull to activate the alarm instantaneously ! The unit is waterproof, weighs 105 grams and comes in orange or blue.
Price: about US$30. Now all I need to is find one to buy around here.
