{via Advrider.com} It looks like the mythical rally, the Dakar (also known as the Paris-Dakar) is to start from Lisbon next year. This year (2005) the Dakar started from Barcelona, and the city would have wanted to host it again, but Lisbon drew the short straw.
Several cities were trying to host the race.
The news is not yet official (nothing from ASO or on the Dakar website), but the news is being quoted in the Portuguese newspapers.

On another note regarding the Dakar, Patrick Zaniroli , the technical director who organized the routes for the race has resigned. He had received a lot of criticism about the very difficult race he set-up over the last two years, but according to him, his resignation has nothing to do with that.
Zaniroli is involved in other races, but not via ASO (the Dakar organizers).
