So far, the rumors of the Italian motorcycle manufacturer Aprilia financial problems were seen as slightly exaggerated. But that has changed as off yesterday. Aprilia had to shutdown their production lines since the suppliers were no longer supplying them with parts.1,000 factory workers have been suspended without pay. Aprilia, who own Moto Guzzi and Laverda, has run up a 300 Million Euros tab with all their suppliers, several who have not been paid for months. And now the suppliers and banks want to see their money! Already it is known that Aprilia are desperately trying to sell-off Moto Guzzi to inject some hard cash into the business, but now several companies are approaching Aprilia with take-over proposals. Bombardier, Piaggio and even car manufacturers are named as possible suitors. It's really a pity to see such a fine brand in difficulty, specially considering that the motorcycle industry is starting to come around. These problems also have knock-on effects; BMW were working with Aprilia on a new engine design, Aprilia's MotoGP adventure will probably stop short in its tracks and Moto Guzzi new Nevada launch will die in its infancy.
