Although there are hundreds of motorcyclists who start out on worldwide adventure rides monthly, only a handful attract the attention of the public and/or press. If you are a famous actor such as Ewan McGregor, then it's easy and simple. Have your press agent release a communiqué and you've got instant news. But if you're a biker like Frederic Journoud who is setting off for a tour of the world, and you're doing it for a children charity (Plan International), then in my humble opinion you deserve far more attention than actors who are heavily sponsored, equipped, full logistics provided for, and with a constant camera crew around you. Frederic, a USA based Frenchman, set out on his BMW motorcycle in April from L.A., driving to Seattle. From there he'll cross the Pacific to Vladivostok and then west through Russia, then north to the Northern part of Finland, and then hang south through Europe until Spain, cross the Mediterranean, then head through Western Africa until Accra, cross the Atlantic to Argentina and then cross South and Latin America to head for home..... I'm tired just from writing about it... In several of the countries he's going to be crossing on his motorcycle, there are planned community projects. The money raised for this trip will sponsor these projects. Senegal, Mali, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador are the countries were these community projects are being held. The Geodysseo website is very well done. It's in English and French, and at the top left corner you'll see a real time position indicator where Frederic is. You can donate money to this charity on the site, and there's a daily travel 'blog'. Click here to access the site (and donate some money ??)
