Heather is wheelchair bound. Her husband, Steve, loves adventure riding on his motorcycle. You can of course buy a sidecar, and put Heather in it, something many people do. But it's not very adapted, nor easy. What do you do with the wheelchair? So the couple set about converting a motorcycle with sidecar to transport the whole wheelchair.

Ural motorcycle with wheelchair sidecar
They went out and bought a Ural motorcycle with sidecar, and converted it to take in the wheelchair! A wheelchair is rather big and tall, so they had to install a special windscreen.

Now, Heather and Steve have a motorcycle they can both ride. It's a fantastic solution, and now both can enjoy the freedom of riding into the sunset.

One word comes to mind; respect!!

If only I had a photo of my friend's side car rig. It had a folding ramp, was attached to a Hondamatic 750, painted to resemble a little red wagon and held her wheelchair and service dog while she toodled around Lincoln, Nebraska, roving as far as Sturgis in fine style.

    Wheelchair bike

At the 2004 USGP in Indianapolis I saw a guy who had not only adapted the sidecar to "dock" with his wheelchair, but had offset the controls of his K75 so he could drive from the sidecar. The passenger (his wife) sat on the bike, with non-steering handlebars to hang onto.
