Messerschmitt | Here's a vehicle that reminds me so much of the good old Messerschmitt "car". Remember those funny three wheelers (like the front loading ones from BMW)? Talk about the retro look... The three wheeler (but it's not a trike) is the Swiss made SAM Cree (Creation Research Engineering + Ecology). Cree's SAM is a two seater, with the passenger seated behind the rider, much like on a motorcycle. Above you is a glass canopy, giving you a good visibility in all directions. The engine is electric, therefore ecological. It's a 168 V engine producing 15 Kw. There's enough torque: 80 Nm regulated from 1,800 RPM. The batteries will give you some 50 to 70 kilometers range, and will take 6 hours to charge. Top speed is 85 kph. The charge requires about 3.5 to 4.5 kilowatts, costing you about €1 per charge (a lot better than gasoline prices). It's not going to get you on long trips, but it will get you through the city to your work, or cruising down the strip in style. The plan is for SAM owners to lease the batteries instead of having to buy them. Since batteries weaken over time, you'll need to dispose of the old ones (not easy nowadays) and buy new ones (expensive). For €65/month you can lease batteries, so you'll always have good ones. Cree are aiming at a price of €6600 for the vehicle. However, they went bust before they could produce it, but have since then risen from the ashes, and are trying to get the project running again. So if you're an investor, contact them. And bring your check book... Click here for more information.
