That would be the case if a study group of the European Commission gets its way! A bunch of "thinkers" (I use that term very loosely) produced a paper entitled "Reduction of Energy Use in Transport', and in this detailed report (126 pages long), they look at motorcycles as a problem, not a solution ! One of their so-called solutions is to restrict the size of motorcycle engines to 650cc, single cylinder and automatic transmission !! What planet do these people live on ? Don't they realize that a 1000+ engine can produce better fuel consumption that a 650 ?? I've got an 1150 cc motorcycle and a 650 one, and the 1150 is less consuming than the 650, specially when riding long distance. What's with the automatic transmission ?? Cars with automatic transmission are far less fuel efficient than normal cars, so why would it be different with motorcycles. Aren't scooters less efficient than motorcycles ?? The report states that motorcycles emit a lot of population and are not fuel efficient, but do not take into account the strict Euro 3 emission standards imposed on motorcycles. Also, they do not take into account that motorcycles are the best way to fight traffic jams ! The report also states that carburetors should be well tuned to dose fuel more efficiently.... but wait a minute, the majority of motorcycle now operate on fuel injection !!! Many countries have dismissed this report, but what worries me is that these people have been paid to produce this report, and they've been paid with MY MONEY !!! They could have used that money to make road infrastructure safer for motorcycles, not attack them. Click here to read more about this "report".
