As some of you may know, the Olympic Flame is currently touring the world, visiting every continent. The Flame arrived last week in Paris, France as I found out the hard way; having to go and pick up two lovely ladies at the railway station, I found myself blocked while the Flame was being run by some French celeb through the streets of Paris. The Flame was touring every district in Paris, and the authorities had blocked of all roads where the "Flame" would appear.
To my surprise, I saw four BMW R1200GS motorcycles surrounding the runner !! All had the Olympic Flame logo on the tanks. Now how did those riders get that job, and why wasn't I invited ??? Apparently, in the beginning BMW were using F650GS, but then switched to the newer R1200GS. This could explain why it's so hard to get the R1200GS... BMW Motorcycles are apparently heavily into the Olympic Games to be held this summer in Greece. They have "donated" 11 motorcycles and riders (all in uniform) for this flame event alone. BMW are further supplying F650GS and K1200LT motorcycles for the Olympic events themselves, escorting events such as the marathon, cycling, etc. In total, 35 BMW motorcycles will be used throughout the Olympics. For the Olympic Flame tour, two Boeing 747's has been specially chartered to fly motorcycles, support staff and most importantly, the flame around the world!
