It's holiday time, and many people will be coming over to France. Already we've done a translation of the government site that shows you where you can find the cheapest fuel {link}. Although many radios and GPSs are equipped with a RDS system, for those of you who don't have one, here's another French government site that shows you the traffic situation in real time on the roads of France. The site, Bison Fute , shows where there are traffic problems, either caused by accident or work in progress. You can see how long the traffic jams are, so you can avoid them. They will also "predict" traffic flows. When you enter the site, you'll see a map of France. If you wait a few seconds, the map will be updated automatically with current traffic situations. If you click on the map at an area you are interested in, you'll be zoomed in, and you'll get more information. Clicking on any of the symbols will give you detail of that traffic alert. The alerts are in French, and too much to translate. The most important is the bottom line, which gives you the time and date the disturbance is expected to finish. Alerts/Symbols that are in Red mean that traffic is really bad, symbols in Orange mean that there are possible slow downs. Roads that are colored red, mean that the road is saturated. An accident has occurred at this spot. Red means serious and traffic has slowed down. Traffic has been cut, and there is no through traffic. Take another road. Road work in progress at that area. Orange means caution, Red means that traffic has slowed down. Traffic is slowed down for other reasons. Click here to access the site .
