 Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati has announced a majority stake bid for Aprilia motorcycles. Aprilia has been on the brink of bankruptcy for the last few months and has needed bank loans to keep afloat to pay the interest in their previous 100 million Euro loan. Several companies (Piaggio, Bombardier) have expressed interest in a stake in the Italian motorcycle manufacturer, but the Ducati bid is the first official one. No price has been announced. With the bid, Ducati stands the chance of not only acquiring Aprilia, but also Moto Guzzi and Laverda, both owned by Aprilia. Not saying anything about Aprilia, but why would Ducati want to purchase another Italian manufacturer that produces the same style motorcycles as Ducati does ?? Unless it's to stop the competition.... Officially, Ducati claim to want to make one large Italian manufacturer, saving development costs, but look what that did to Aprilia and their purchase of Guzzi. Click here to read more about it
