After a long and bitter battle, the French Federation of Angry Bikers (FFMC) has lost its opposition to a new proposed law;- allowing, and even forcing, cars to drive with their lights on during daytime. Currently, it's illegal to drive with your lights on in a car during daytime, only motorcycles must have their light on. But the government thinks it can save some 5% of road deaths involving cars by forcing cars to turn on their lights, and thereby sacrificing bikers. But the FFMC are protesting (petition time)! Motorcycles were "forced" to turn on their lights 20 years ago by the government in order for it to be safer to ride on the roads, since they would be more visible. Now if everyone is going to have their lights on, motorcycles will no longer be visible. What do we need to do now ??? Put on strobes ?? Sirens ?? On a more positive note, the government is stepping up their replacement program of the crash barriers. Currently, many crash barriers function as guillotine when a rider is thrown of his/her motorcycle and slides through the barrier. There have been several cases of bikers losing their heads.... Hopefully, by the end of the year, most barriers will have been replaced.
