Last 2 years I reported {link} on one team that was going to try to race in the notorious Dakar rally. They did not make it due to the extensive number of entries. The list was closed before their registration was received.

That is not going to happen in the next Dakar race (2006) ! The USA based Hog Wild Racing entry has been accepted ! So what's so special about someone racing in the Dakar race; there are 100's doing it every year ?

The norm for motorcycles in the Dakar are KTM, followed by KTM and finally some KTMs (and one or two Yamahas and BMWs sprinkled in to make KTM honest). But in January 2006 you're going to hear the roar of a Harley-Davidson V-Rod !!! I kid you not !

Hog Wild Racing team
Scott Whitney is going to be racing with his team-mate Duane McDowell, in a Harley-Davidson V-Rod sidecar !!

Last year, there was only one sidecar motorcycle in the Dakar, the Swiss Aprilia based sidecar {link}. By default, they won the race in their category Wink. This year is going to be tougher for them since they've got some serious competitors.

You can read about the progress the Hog Wild Racing team is making, plus look at some spectacular photos and videos of their "out of this world sidecar motorcycle". Click here to access their website. Scott is also the owner of the motorcycle sidecar website sidecarcross.com.

There's a discussion forum where Scott posts all his progress, and where you can ask your questions. You can also join their supporter club, and off course you can sponsor. They will need all the support they can get. It's not easy doing the Dakar on a motorcycle, it's got to be hell to do it on a sidecar....

Hog Wild Racing Tyres
Just look at the tyres they've mounted on their motorcycle... I'd say that Duane has the toughest job.

At least Scott can sit for a part of the race, but Duane will need to standing !
