It looks like the draconian measures the French government has put in place over the last 2 years are paying off. France had one of the highest mortality rates in Europe for road deaths. Now, with all the automatic digital radars installed throughout France, deadly accidents have been cut by 27% ! In June of this year, there were 400 road deaths, compared to 551 last year. Year to date, 5346 died on French roads, compared to 8000 in 2002. Motorcyclist Still Speed According to the Police, 20% of cars still speed, while 45% of motorcycles break the speed limit on a regular basis ! The automatic radars and Police controls have resulted in 250,000 fines, compared to 100,000 last year. In the mean time, Police are stepping up the placement of radars and speed traps. So be warned when you ride in France. They're going to start targeting motorcycles more and more.
