UK Looking into "Spy" Chip in Cars/Motorcycles

The planned microchip

The U.K. government are studying a proposal that will force all car manufacturers to fit an electronic "spy" in to your vehicle (car/motorcycle) whose only purpose in life is to tell authorities if you have broken the law.

The microchip should "beam" its information about your speed, parking in illegal zones, maybe even crossing white lines to the Police, who will then send you a fine. The chip itself has your license plate number and other information engraved, so no swapping chips.

It does sound very much like "Big Brother", but is it far fetched ??? Already in the UK all motorists are heavily taxed and fined, and in London, digital cameras are used to tax cars (there is no escape). In France the government is talking about using toll road tickets to determine your average driving speed.

This is really starting to sound like a bad Orwell book.....
