France and the UK are not the only ones who are having legislation problems for motorcycles who ride off-road. Belgium politicians have impossed a law forbidding motorcycles from riding on the trails in their forests. Only organized rides are allowed, meaning that you need to obtain a permit in advance. There are loads of restrictions in place for organized rides. To express their displeasure, 500 bikers went on a protest ride, ending in the garden of the Minister in charge of rural affairs, Benoît Lutgen. The protest ride had actually been planned as a off-road ride, but since they were not allowed to do so, they decided to visit the minister himself. Novel idea !! I somehow doubt that the politician listened. The number of motorcycle voters are far less than the greenies, so there's no political (=votes) weight. And if only 500 motorcycles turn up, it does not really say much to the politician, does it ? The organization that lobbies than motorcycles (and other vehicles) are allowed to ride in the forests is called Codever. You can visit their site by clicking here (in French). (thanks Jerry R.) Where are the motorcycle manufacturers in all this ???
