I did not know this existed, though remember having seen some of these photos in the past. After the Ducati Bicycle story of yesterday, I spent some time on the "Net" looking at bicycles. And that's where I found this beauty; Whizzer Motorbikes. What are Whizzer Motorbikes ? They are essentially bicycles with an engine. The only difference with manufacturers such as Solex, is the styling and the engine. Whizzer started producing engine powered bicycles back in 1939. Today, though produced in Taiwan, the American company has several new models, but all are based on their older designs, i.e., a retro look. Personally, I think the "look" is really pretty... The engine used is a 138 cc, 4 stroke engine, developing 1.95 hp (OK, let's call it 2 hp). The 1.2 gallon tank (4.5 liters) will give you 120 miles to the gallon (51 km/liter - try that on any motorcycle). The bike is driven by a belt drive, primary with automatic centrifugal clutch. The top speed is 25 mph. Though prices for their new NE5 seem to be tough to find, I noticed that other models prices are between US$1500 and 1700. I guess the day the axe falls on my driving license, this is what I'll get myself for transportation. Click here to access their site.
