BMW are now calling the previously known T800 (unofficial name - {link}), the F800S. The BMW F800S motorcycle is the first of a series of motorcycles developed on a twin cylinder, 800 cc 4-valve Bombardier-Rotax motorcycle. The compression is a very high 12:1.

The wet weight is 200 kg, and the motorcycle has the latest digital electronics, including ABS. The F800S motorcycle, as seen from previous spy photos uses a belt drive as found on the F650CS-Scarver.

The motorcycle develops some 60 kW (about 80 bhp).

The official launch of the F800S will be 15 November at the EICMA Motorcycle show in Milan.

I really like the the looks of the engine . Resembles machined billet . The fairing looks like a cross between and R1100S and a DL 650 V- Strom . I hope it has HardBags as an option. I wish it weighed less.I hope it has some adjustability in the suspension. Can't wait to ride one.

Weight seems low considering included ABS. I'm sold. I'll have to engineer more leg room (raised seet padding) & probably raise the bars also, which may require custom hoses, cables. Clutch: Slipper type? Hdraulic or cable? Wonder how long for taller windshield to appear? Looks almost perfect except I'd prefer upside down forks...This might be bike of year. A dual sport version would own the world & sell 10k annually in USA.

I hopw that they consider this engine with the belt drive for a new gs as well as a Dakar version.Enclosing/protecting the belt as the Buell Uylsses does would be ideal.

First impression is very positive. I hope they offer a light-colored version, like white or silver, ideally with black highlights. Thank God they've relented and are finally using conventional forks! Give it some interesting instruments (24 hour clock please!) and I'll be first on my block.

Me likey! Making it in MPY is even better. Most Beemers look better in person than in pics, so I look forward to seeing it up close and personal.

It also might just be a way for BMW to reach out to the younger rider -- a first bike that is not so lame as the F650CS is.

Looks just like the Yamaha TRX 850 used to look.

Is this bike going to the states? ABS, fuel injection, stylish looks, 80 BHP and 418 lbs. If this scooter ever makes it over here, I'll buy it! Hello Munich!! Texas calling!

This looks promising...but misses the mark for me. Looking for a lightweight (less than 500 lbs)sport / tour bike with good ergos and a full fairing (Belt drive is perfect). Ducati st4 comes close but leans too much towards the sport end of the spectrum. Higher bars, a light weight full coverage fairing, a comfortable seat that doesn't slope forward, keep it simple and light. The RT 1200 is too bulky / heavy...and the sit up and beg riding position is just all wrong. I can only hope this bike might evolve.

    Doug

I feel your pain. Unfortunately the bike you & I want will likely never be built. More than even most vehicles, mc purchases are emotional. If the bike does not have the right look, it will wilt on the showroom floors. The manufacturer will loose money on the investment & the bike will be discontinued.

There is also the marketing & profit problem. I'd bet you & I could specify a bike based on the 800 platform, with perilously close to or more performance than the more expensive boxers. The two bikes could probably not co-exist on the showroom floor. One would have to be dropped (probably the boxer), the price of the 800 would have to jump, & shoppers might disaprove.

The days of quality do-it-all mounts like the R100RS may be gone. There are nice Japanese street fighters, but with pathetic, dirty, maintenance intensive chain final drive. You might consider the '06 Buell Ulysses &/or XB12Ss long wheelbase. They are sensitive to suspension settings. The Ulysses may work better on the street with a rounder tire profile. I like the Ducati S2R but it has limited fuel range, needs a fairing, suspect reliability, & chain final drive.

I'm assuming I'll like the overall mechanics & architecture of the F800S. I will probably get one, modify the ergonomics, & possibly install a larger sport-touring fairing. Maybe a larger windshield will be offerred. I hope the fuel range is good & a center stand is offerred.
