One of the more interesting new products introduced in the Milan Motorcycle Show two weeks ago, came from an English company called Reevu. With all the announcements from the big motorcycle manufacturers, this one nearly escaped my attention. Who is Reevu ?? Reevu is a manufacturer of bicycle helmets, with a new, very special kind of motorcycle helmet. The helmet has an integrated mirror that allows you to monitor the traffic behind you without having to take your eyes of the road !! Nifty ?? Yes, very much so in todays' busy road traffic. Any moment you take your eyes of can be fatal. This new product allows you to have an increased awareness of the traffic situation. The mirror system is integrated in to the top of the helmet, and consists of reflective polycarbonate material, a material that reflects well but does not break on impact. The material is light, so easy to wear. When you look through the helmet, the mirror is placed at the top of your viewing angle. So you can more or less monitor what is happening behind you without moving your eyes. For me, this appears to be a great advantage. Not only do you not need to continuously look at your side mirrors, but you don't really need to look at the integrated mirror, since it's inside your peripheral vision. I'd say though that you need some time to adapt to the mirror system, but once done, the awareness if automatic and safe. Here are three photos of the view from inside the helmet: Click here to go to Reevu web site.
