Yes, most of us motorcycle riders are mad, but in this case it M.A.D.D. (and it's not Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, although that counts as well). The MADD I want to talk about today is Motorcyclists Against Dumb Drivers.
MADD is an American organization that is fighting for driver education. Education = Prevention !
2/3 of accidents between a car and a motorcycle occurs because the car driver was not paying attention; either because of a mobile telephone, a blind spot, too close to a motorcycle, or any of the many reasons why car drivers kill motorcycle riders.
MADD want to educate car drivers. If a cage driver knows that a motorcycle will stop in half the distance of a car, maybe some will hang back a bit more. Maybe, if they realize that when turning, a motorcycle could be coming through their blind spot, or when changing lanes, maybe a few more will actually use their mirror for a change, and save one more life !
At the MADD website, they publish all the email addresses of the US Governors, and a form letter you can send them. It's kind of crazy in todays' society that car drivers are not made aware of motorcycles during their car driving education.
So, it's not really the fault of ignorant car drivers; if they don't know, then whose fault is it ? Well, education is one area that can will help.
