All self-respecting motorcycle manufacturers need several days every year to celebrate their brand with passionate owners. A couple of days where like-minded motorcycle lovers gather, party, discuss, ride and generally have so much fun that the following year, when they decide to buy a new motorcycle, they'll stick to the manufacturer they have now. The biggest event is without any doubt those organized by Harley, but the likes of Ducati, Benelli, Guzzi, etc all do it. German manufacturer BMW have been running their BMW Motorrad Days for the 10th year now, always in the area located close to the Alps mountains (in other words, close enough for great mountain rides); Garmich-Partenkirchen . It is truly at the center of Europe, with many countries within a day's ride. The 10th anniversary coincides with the 30th anniversary of BMW's hot selling GS motorcycles, so this year biker bash will be centered around this special dual-purpose motorcycle. A competition for GS owners has been organized. The first one is for the oldest GS, the second category is for the GS with the highest mileage and the third category is for the most impressive creation. The jury consists of Jutta Kleinschmidt (Dakar racer - cars - but also multiple rally winner on a GS), Hubert Auriol (Dakar winner on a GS 1981 and 1983) and Charley Boorman (film star and co-rider of the "Long Way Round" and "Long Way Down" TV documentaries). Several prizes are available, with the top prize €500. Just show up with your GS motorcycle and enter in the competition. If you've been following my articles on Tiffany "Tiff" Coates , then I'd say that her GS motorcycle could win all three categories with one bike..... For the rest of the program, expect the usual; drink, training sessions on GS and G450X models, and even on the Husqvarna, drink, test rides, drink, rides outs, drink, good old Chriss Pfeiffer doing his amazing stunts, drink, party, drink, music, drink, food and finally you'll get a chance to drink a beer or two. Apart from the drinks and other stuff, you'll also find some 60 accessory exhibitors on the grounds. There's an enormous camping ground next to the venue, and several B&B's around the area, but if you want to stay in one, hurry since there's not that many and people come from all over the world for this event. So if you're planning to go, mark your calendars; July 2 - 4th. You don't need to have a BMW motorcycle, but it sure helps having one. Click here to access the BMW Motorrad Days site .
