Talk about having a blind faith in your motorcycle !! Billy Baxter, a blind, ex-military serviceman, from the United Kingdom, set out to break the world speed record on a motorcycle for blind persons. And break it he did !! The old record stood at 78.4 mph, but Baxter on a Kawasaki ZX-12R Ninja broke the record by riding his bike at 168.4 mph !! Baxter lost his eye sight contracting a rare virus while serving in the Royal Horse Guard Artillery in Bosnia in 1997. A passionate biker, he trained on his motorcycle in his garage, trying to maintain a proper posture and feeling. On August 2nd, he went out on his bike on the runway at RAF Boscombe Down in Wiltshire, UK, followed closely by two riders from the Royal Artillery Motorcycle Display Team and some special electronics (in particular a GPS). The two riders would talk to Baxter on a bike-to-bike radio telling him to go more to the left or right. According to Baxter, the most dangerous part was slowing down after the run!! The record of the fastest car driven by a blind person stands at 144 mph with a Jaguar XJR (Mike Newman). Click here to read more about it. Click here to read more about it.
