MCIA (Motor Cycle Industry Association) published the annual report on motorcycles theft in the UK, and it's pretty bad. The report looks at the year 2000, and it becomes apparent that motorcycles stand TWICE the chance of being stolen then cars !! During the year 2000, 36,000 motorcycles were stolen. 80% of these motorcycles stolen where stolen from their homes. According to the British Police, with some 50% of the motorcycles stolen, the owner did not lock the motorcycle !!! Although, according to the experts, locking will not prevent your motorcycle from being stolen. Professional thieves will get to your lock in 15 seconds. Another easy theft is to pick up the motorcycle and place it into a van. Good-bye motorcycle.... The good news is that mopeds and scooters are more likely to be stolen that motorcycles. Motorcycle less than 125 cc, specially off-road motorcycles are the main target for motorcycles thieves. Best is to lock your motorcycle to an unmovable object. And since most motorcycles get stolen for their parts, have the bigger and expensive parts marked... UK magazine, MCN, and the British Police operate a website, where you can register your stolen motorcycle, including photos. Click here for details. Click here to read the MCIA report. (PDF File)
