The European Community is working on a common driving license for all of Europe's Members. This should become standard for 2008. The European Federation Of Motorcycle Associations, FEMA, is helping the commission to work on the new laws. The biggest change (at least for the French) is that the license is no longer for "life". The commission wants to make the license have a life span of 10 years, and after you are 65 years old, 5 year life span. After that you need to renew. The French Federation of Angry Bikers (FFMC) is fighting the proposed law, and is proposing a permanent license until the age of 70, and then a medical certificate which needs to be renewed every 5 years. The other change is the format of the license. It will be a single card, plasticized, containing a microchip. No longer the three part/page pink license, but a more modern, "American" style one.
