Here's a typical private entry contestant (a privateer) in the Paris-Dakar rally. His name is Chris Emerson, and he's English, and will be riding a BMW F650 Dakar.
Chris is not a professional rally rider, nor will he have a 100+ person support team, but he's going to ride the Dakar rally anyway. It's people like Chris that have made the Paris-Dakar a legend, since the race was alwaysbeen meant for amateurs, but has recently turned in to a money making machine for the organizers and pro-teams.
