Since the famous Dakar race is only a few weeks away, I'm going to be looking at a few motorcycle teams between now and the end of the race. The first team is quite known to me, since they are my two motorcycle off road instructors (if you want to see some photos of this awesome BMW Off Road course, click here - this is a highly recommended course, even if you do not ride BMW motorcycles). Their names are Simon Pavey and Nick Plumb, and they both ride for the British Dome BMW Team on BMW F650's. Simon Pavey Simon (on the right) is Australian, born in 1967. He first started racing in 1981 in Australia. His first win was that same year. In 1988 he became the New South Wales (Australia) Hare Scramble champion and in 1989, he became the number one enduro rider in Japan. He ended up 3rd in the 500cc category in the 1997 Atlas Rally, and 20th overall in the Tunisia Rally. Last year, Simon crashed in the Dakar Rally and did not finish. Nick Plumb Nick Plumb is English, born in 1977. His first motorcycle race was in 1993 (Tidworth) which he won. He finished the 2003 Dakar rally in a very respectable 65th position, and crashed and injured himself in last year's race. Nick, in his spare time, also runs Touratech UK.... Both live in Wales, close to the Off Road Training school.
