O'Neill have introduced the first ever solar panel powered backpack, the H2 ! On its own, the specifications are to dream for. Solar panels that charge your electronic devices, Bluetooth module and remote controls inside the bag's straps. The charging is done via a USB (5V) and Firewire (12V) adaptor. The charging uses TSA Step-up converters, meaning that you can plug in several devices. The converter checks to see which devices needs juice at that moment, and delivers it.
The Bluetooth module allows for you to use your telephone and iPod. If a calls comes in, the iPod is automatically paused. You also have controls incorporated in the backpack straps. The Bluetooth module will connect with any Bluetooth compliant device, ie, motorcycle helmet.
The H2 backpacks have waterproof compartments, so you can store your valuable electronics in them.
Unfortunately, the bags are currently meant for snowboarders or skiers.
But with a little imagination, you could take one of these bags and use them on your motorcycle. This would very much be of interest to the long distance motorcycle riders, who typically spend over 5 hours riding.
Many of us listen to music, have Bluetooth enabled helmets, mobile telephone on the go. All use up battery power. What if we could adapt these backpacks to charge our Bluetooth helmets ? Or better yet, have O'Neill make a biker version...
The H2 bags aren't the only thing O'Neill is producing in this series. A jacket with controls in the sleeves, and even gloves with controls in the top of the glove.
