I'd be the first to admit that I don't like noisy motorcycles. In fact, most motorcycles aren't that noisy; it's the mopeds and their modified exhausts that irritate the living s*%§ out of me ! But to some people, the slightest noise irritates them, specially when it's not them making the noise. The city of Carefree, Arizona have decided that they fall in the category of people who are irritated by noise, or at least their definition of noise. They have imposed a city wide ban on motorcycles with sounds exceeding 80 decibels !! If you get caught, you get fined US$ 750 ! (not mention of cars exceeding that noise limit) Wait a minute !! 80 dB, while the legal limits in most of Europe is 90, this would mean that most motorcycle with larger than 50 cc engines would not be allowed in their precious town !! To give you an idea what 80 dB stands for, click here for list of noise makers. In a move worthy of a Hollywood slapstick movie, the officials are fighting between themselves between the "eager to stop motorcycles", and the ones that want to play the game fair and square. Apparently, no-one from the city council approved the new signs, nor the hefty fine, nor the 80 dB noise limit (their city ordnance states 85 dB!). Where do they get these jokers ??
