I finished reading the recent book from actors Ewan McGregor {link} and Charley Boorman {link}, Long Way Round. The book (and the TV mini series) is based on both actors' ride from London to New York via Russia, Mongolia and other interesting countries. On a positive note, the book is well written and an easy read. It's easy to follow, and tells the ride from both Ewan and Charley's perspective. It's interesting to see what they've done, and how they've done it. There are a lot of photos spread around the book. On a negative note, I'm surprised at Ewan's attitude. They used their star status to obtain all the motorcycles, support cars, and other related items, but then when he's spotted on the road, he complains about being treated as a star!!! For us "poor" riders, we don't get to ride around the world with a support team who'll handle all the paper work, a doctor in the support trucks and a third motorcycle following you to film the event! Charley Boorman on the other hand seems like a real biker. Up to all challenges. But, that does take away that they did accomplish the ride, despite difficult circumstances, and the book is worth your while to read. Apparently, Charley Boorman is planning to run the Dakar race of 2006 ! Now that'll be a ride.
