This is one electronic gadget that is becoming more and more popular for motorcycles; the mobile telephone ! Carrying your mobile phone with you while riding your motorcycle is smart; if you break down, you can call a towing service, if you fall and are hurt, you can call emergency services, etc. etc. The next thing is to be able to receive calls while riding. In the beginning, it was quite difficult, even if you had an earphone and throat microphone. Sound was bad, and your microphone would pick up all sorts of engine and traffic noise. Nowadays, there are more and more manufacturers that are releasing motorcycle specific devices, allowing you to receive phone calls while riding your motorcycle (let's not talk about the ethics and safety concerns). Here an Italian manufacturer (CellularLine) releasing the AuHelmet. The communication unit connects to almost any major mobile phone (a list of supported GSM phones is available on their website) and sits inside your helmet without the need to fit it in permanently (ie. you can move it from helmet to helmet), so no need to open-up your helmet. The unit consists of a cable with audio plug that fits in to your mobile telephone (this cable is different for each phone) and the audio unit itself, comprising of an earphone, boom microphone and the answer button. On the outside you strap, using velcro, the answer button. This button allows you to accept phone calls while riding (if your telephone has that ability). You can operate the button with even the thickest winter gloves. Press the button, and your phone is answered ("Honey, could you pick-up a loaf of bread on your way home..."). Cost: About 40 Euros.
