Ready to go
Monday 27DEC

Well, that was some trip ! We left Monday 26th from Normandy. Jacques on his R1200GS motorcycle and myself on the R1150GS motorcycle. I had forgotten my tank bag in Paris so we needed to pass via Paris on our way down south.

When we arrived at my apartment, the bag wasn't there either, so I used a generic tank bag, not one specifically adapted for my motorcycle.

Riding south, the weather started getting colder and colder. We did not get very far, since traffic has very full, and the weather did not help. It had reached about 4° C (I've mounted a digital thermometer).

Conference Room Parking
When we came close the Orleans, we decided to call it a day since it was dark. We went scouting for a hotel, and found a Comfort Inn. Jacques went inside and after 10 minutes came back grinning.

We were worried about leaving the motorcycles outside, and Jacques asked if we could leave the bikes in front of the office. The manager said "NO", that's not safe !

So he escorted us to the rear of the building and let us ride our motorcycles into the CONFERENCE ROOM !! How cool !! Way to go Comfort Inn !!

Tuesday 28DEC

Today we were supposed to ride from Orlean via the new Millau bridge to the south. However, Jacques was riding point and his GPS went on a blink and he took a wrong turn and ended up going via Limoges and Toulouse, some 200 kms extra. HOWEVER, thanks to his misguiding, we escape a major snowstorm on the autoroute we were supposed to take. In fact, the closed the road due to excessive snow !!

We did get hit by snow and ice once or twice, but after slowing down to a waling pace for a mile or so, with temperature in the freezing points, the temperature went back to +4°C, so off we went.

We saw one Dakar car, a Toyota car/4WD. Don't know if it was a competitor or a service car (went past very fast).

We arrived late at night in Toulouse, checked in to a non-descriptive hotel.

Wednesday 29DEC

We rode out early from Toulouse towards Barcelona. Very heavy winds along most of the way. Twice the wind hit really low and I could feel the wheels starting to go.... not a nice feeling.

On the way we saw several Dakar cars. We also passed three Dutch competitor trucks. I honked and raised my thumb, and we were greeted with a chorus of horns from the trucks.

Anyway, we arrived in Barcelona. A goof friend had booked us a great hotel (with WiFi in the room!).

Tomorrow we go and look at the Dakar vehicles. More then (I hope).
