Sitting on your motorcycle with a jacket often means that the zipper or buttons of the jacket will touch your fuel tank. Moving around, specially on a sports motorcycles, but also on other types of bikes, means that you could be scratching your fuel tank. It has happened to me, so I now consistently put an after-market fuel tank protector on it.
Fuel tank protectors, or tank pads, come in many different shapes, forms and colors. Some are plain, with maybe a logo, while others are works of art.
