Men will be men (and boys will be boys). Motorcycles and women are a great combination, and have been so for ever. Many garages, lockers and offices have photos of classy women with motorcycles. Back in the middle part of the last century, pin-ups were very much in style. Pin-ups could not only be seen on calendars, magazines and walls, but also on airplanes and motorcycles. Great illustrators like Alberto Vargas made a decent living producing pin-up drawings. Magazines like Playboy showed, and still do, pin-ups as part of their regular entertainment. The pin-up women often were drawn with incredible figures, almost impossible to obtain in real life. The ladies were dressed in such a way that they remained decent, but there was always something that would catch the eye of a teenager with a high dose of hormones. Pin-ups were either line drawings, water colors, even photos. Motorcycle pin-ups, classic ones, can be a work of art. Vespa scooters knew that from the beginning, and often you could see them in Vespa ads. You'll find at the end of the 54 motorcycle pin-ups a bunch of Vespa scooter pin-ups. Most of the 54 pin-ups below are drawings. Some are old, some are recent, but done in a classic old-fashion way. Enjoy. Artist: Gil Elvgren |
