(Sorry for the play of words in the title, it was too easy) Since yesterday was world Woman's Day, and I'm always a bit late, I'm proposing to have a look at a special woman in the tough world of motorcycles, specifically the world of motocross. Motocross is incredibly physical and tough. To participate, you need to be tough, fast and have endurance. There are more and more women participating in these races, but overall, not that many.
Livia Lancelot © Eric Malherbe/Red Bull Photofiles | French Livia Lancelot is one of them. Not only does she ride motorcycles in the motocross world, on its own a great feat, but she is also a World Champion Female Motocross!
Livia Lancelot © Eric Malherbe/Red Bull Photofiles | She saw the light of day in 1988, and 4 years later, she was already riding her first motorcycle. In 1992 she entered her first motorcycle race. With her 1 Meter 73 height, and 60 kilo weight, she got 3rd place in the US Female Championship in 2005, and 3rd in the World Championship. In 2006, she end up 3rd again, and in 2007, she went step one higher, becoming the 2nd overall. Then in 2008, Livia won 1st place in the World Championship Female Motocross (WMX ). Livia won her races on a Kawasaki motorcycle. During the 2009 season, Lancelot was injured and missed several races.
