	A Tour De France On A Scooter For A Special Girl 10 May 2010   File under  Female Travel   Author: Mike Werner   Location: Normandy, France Many people go for long adventure trips on their motorcycle or scooter, often bringing them far away from home. Some go on an adventure ride for a reason. Ara Lucia Ashburne is one of those people who are riding on a mission. Ara is a 45 year young lady who has had a misfortune in her life, giving her a lifelong disability (without going too much into details, she's been in a coma, her abdomen muscles removed), but in contrast with other people who have a disability, hers is not visible. Most people think that if you don't show a form of disability, you're not disabled. Her mission is to ride through France on her scooter, showing the world that a) people without a physically noticeable disability can have a severe form of disability, and b) prove to herself, that despite the physical constraints, she can accomplish her goal. She is currently in training in the US, riding longer and longer distances so that she gets comfortable riding the distances she'll need to ride here in France. Next year will see her coming to France, and going for a ride of a lifetime. She hopes to write a book about her experience. The effort she'll be making is enormous, definitely not an easy task. Riding in France for a stranger is not easy, but when you suffer from a disability, it's a mountain of problems. You can read more about Ara and her upcoming trip on her blog .
